Product Description There are a huge number of variables that can affect the outcome of a horse race. The serious handicapper has to deal with them one way or another. The objective of this book is not to develop a handicapping "system," but to offer a number of tools that can relieve you from tedious manual calculations or check lists. It does this by describing and explaining a set of more than 25 different spreadsheets and PC programs. These range from simple odds/probabilities calculations to creating a personal odds line, to analyzing exactas, to correlation and regression analysis. What's more, all of these are available as free downloads from the internet.

I've been buying books from Amazon for about 6 or 7 years, maybe 30-50 books a year and I never beforewrote a reveiw.
I've purchased almost every book on horse racing that's on the market and this book is at the top of the list as for helpful imformation.
The author has clearly done a lot of research and knows what he's talking about on the subject. Not only is the book packed with great information, but the items that you download from his site are value packed.

Excellent resource. There is nothing else out there for Excel modeling of horse race handicapping. He starts with the basics and expands handicapping on different handicapping approaches. Spreadsheet samples are available from his website. Contact with the author has been very positive and timely, with a willingness to follow-up with questions about the book. Highly recommended.

This book could be of help to a handicapper who is well experienced in using spread sheets and data base programs, and who already has Excel on their computer. If you don't have these qualifications, it won't be of much help. I bought this book after reading the above product description indicating there were free downloadable programs that cover various aspects of horse racing record keeping and analysis. This is true, these programs are available. However, they won't work unless you have Excel loaded on your computer. I don't, and I can't justify buying it for $175. Several of these programs could be quite useful in reducing the time spent in keeping your own records, but, again, only for someone skilled with using spread sheets. The author also doesn't overlook hyping his web site where other more advanced programs are for sale.

This book is a blatant attempt to sell software! The link that is given for the "free" spreadsheets has not been updated since the month following the publish date. Nothing happens when you click on the "Go to download location" button at the listed website.
It does have some good information, but not nearly enough to rate more than 1/2 star! He does give the formulae for most of the spreadsheets, but having one already done beats the Heck out of taking the time to put it together.
Mark me as an unhappy reader of this book!
